4. How do you know your new printer will print barcodes the way you need them printed?
Barcode failure causes a lot of problems. Shipping can stop. Sometimes fines are assessed (Walmart is known for assessing heavy fines on vendors due to barcode issues). If you’re printing at high speeds on plastics or synthetic materials, you could definitely have issues if you don’t choose the right printer. Not every printer can print quality barcodes on as many different media as the Printronix LaserLine series can. That’s why testing how printers print your barcodes before replacing your Printronix LaserLine printer is wise.
5. How will your Printronix LaserLine replacement handle your labels, tags, or other media you have to print on?
One of the main reasons people bought the Printronix LaserLine printers was because they were very good at printing on unique card stock, tags and labels. If you’re looking for a printer with similar capabilities to your old Printronix printer, you’ll want a printer that handles a wide range of sizes and media types.
6. Supply costs and availability
So many printer manufacturers today are in the business of selling “throw away” machines and making enormous profits off the toner and supplies. If a manufacturer recommends longer yield supplies, and is serious about producing printers that require less user maintenance, it’s a rare thing. Look for printer manufacturers with this philosophy. You’ll be happy in the long run that you did.
7. Will maintenance and support be available when you need it?
In the last few years industrial printer manufacturers have gone through dramatic changes. There have been mergers, acquisitions and some manufacturers have gone out of business.
But the printer experts who’ve worked in the industry for years and years are still around. Working with a reseller who specializes in industrial printers and who has a strong staff of printer specialists will ensure that you get the support and the maintenance help you need down the road.
